British Pavilion

Venice Architecture Biennale
2010

Commissioned by the British Council, muf architecture/art were appointed artistic directors of the British Pavilion at the 12th International Architecture Biennale in Venice. The project, ironically titled Villa Frankenstein, attempts a collaborative process between a variety of individuals, each examining one particular aspect of Venice. Thus, the boundary between the international Biennale grounds and its host city are opened up, and the pavilion becomes a platform for exchange.
In line with the conceptual focus on ‘Close Looking’ at Venice, objectif developed a graphic identity based on the typography found on the plaque of the Pavilion, dating from the early 1900s when the building was first used as exhibiton space for Britain. The scope of our brief included the design of all printed matter (invitations, press release, sponsorship documents, posters, catalogue), a blog (www.villafrankenstein.com) and the exhibition graphics – individually developed with each of the collaborators. Collaborators include: Wolfgang Scheppe, Jane da Mosto, Robert Hewison, Lottie Child, et al. All exhibition graphics were produced in Venice by local suppliers.
