The interpretive signage of muf’s new Altab Ali Park in London Whitechapel tells the local history from the early use of the park as site for the White Chapel, over the gradual immigration of Bangladeshi families to the area up to the struggle of the Bangladeshi community against far right extremism sparked by the murder of Altab Ali by racist youths.
The signage has been integrated into an ecclesiastical railing which forms the boundary of the recreated remains of the White Chapel. It has been realised as vitreous enamel to withstand the exposure to traffic and weather on busy Whitechapel High Street.
