We Design for the Community

Mayor of London
2022

We Design for the Community is a support programme pairing London-based organisations working in the culture and community sectors with design students and recent graduates. The programme aims to improve the organisations’ digital and visual communication, while providing an opportunity to for the students to develop their skills and progress to work in the creative industry. Participation is free of charge of the organisations, while students are paid London living wage.
The programme has been initiated by Marco Ugolini and Axel Feldmann in 2022, in collaboration with the Mayor of London’s Culture and Community Spaces at Risk fund.

The 2022 and 2023 editions of the programme – funded by the Mayor of London – took place at UAL Camberwell College of Arts and the University of Greenwich. The participating students came from a variety of UK colleges and universities. The community organisations who took part serve (or are run by) a variety of underprivileged and underrepresented groups. We received over 300 applications, almost 30.000 website visits, and in total more than 80 students and members of organisations participated to date.
