Ottolenghi – The Cookbook

Ebury Press
2008

The concept for this book evolved naturally from the setting of the Ottolenghi restaurants in London. White space, used as a canvas to display lavishly arranged food, interspersed with documentary scenes of customers and staff in their everyday environment at Ottolenghi.
Our art direction vigorously excluded anything artificial or staged. All meals were prepared on the day of the photoshoot by Ottolenghi chefs and shot on site at London’s four Ottolenghi restaurants and facilities. Throughout the book Richard Learoyd’s photography maintains a documentary style, avoiding deliberate compositions. To complement this approach, the graphic design was kept simple and functional.
