London Borough of Harrow
2021
We’ve been invited to work on the graphics for a new public square in Harrow, in collaboration with Carver Haggard architects Greenhill Place consists of a number of food kiosks with a sheltered seating space, as well as a bespoke play area.
The design is based on simple patterns and shapes evoking grasslands. These can be freely joined together, rotated, repeated, juxtaposed and extruded, building up into a rich visual vocabulary that recalls the decorative schemes of Harrow’s metro-land period. Variations of these patterns have been applied to the terrazzo welcome mat and the building’s frieze, and in a more abstract form to the play area, gates, shutters and seating areas. Akin to a musical theme playing through different variations, we hope we have created a visual identity that does justice to the diverse, multi-facetted and fluid character of this public square.
