Design for London
2007
Barking is currently undergoing a redesign of its entire town centre, following a masterplan by the property developer Redrow Regeneration. This exhibition was conceived by Design for London, with muf architecture/art and the Architects’ Journal, as an information platform for Barking’s citizens. All the current architectural projects in and around Barking were displayed as models, on loan from over 20 architecture practices. We created a conceptual ‘sightseeing’ trail around Barking passing the new developments, but also incorporating some of Barking’s historic, partly derelict sites, to increase the visitors’ sense of value in Barking.
Visitors of the exhibition have been handed out a ‘touristic map’ of Barking to guide them along the trail. Each of the sites had been marked by a temporary sign.
